I am 28years old training for the 2018 Olympics in Skeleton. Skeleton is a winter sport, like Bobsled and Luge except I slide on my sled, on my stomach head first down the mile long track. The 2018 Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
I began skeleton in 2005 when asked to come to Lake Placid and attend a week-long camp at the Olympic Training Center. Unlike anything I had ever done I headed to Lake Placid to give it a try. It was so different at first that it was scary, you didn’t feel like you had any control over what you were doing. Maybe because it was so different, I was invited back and only after that I became hooked. I wouldn’t have even considered heading to Lake Placid if it wasn’t for my Mom pushing me. She watched the US win two Gold medals at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah and my Mom just loved it. I was a 17 year old girl who wanted to make her Mom happy at the time, and in the end I couldn’t be happier as well!
I currently live at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY where I train (sprinting and weight lifting) during the summers and compete on the World Cup circuit during the winter months of October through March. I travel North America, Europe and Russia with the rest of the Bobsled and Skeleton team competing against other athletes in the world, making friends and having some wonderful experiences.
It is the start of a new quad as we call it, different focus and a whole new attitude towards training and competing. It is time to put the past behind me, bad races, good races everything and focus only on the future.
